On behalf of the UNITED NUN CLUB, I welcome you to our new Website. This site was constructed by James Lavergne of www.Aviangems.com. He is very talented and his work professional. The membership is very pleased with his efforts on our behalf. The culture of the UNITED NUN CLUB is based on innovation, respect for the individual, teamwork and integrity. As NUN fanciers, keeping and raising them is an important part of life. They are a medium of expression; a form of culture in which to find release and relaxation from the cares of ordinary living. Their grace of line, precise markings and brilliant coloring create a sense of appreciation for the beautiful. The endeavor to breed Nuns to an ideal of perfection is ever challenging, always working towards that anticipated attainment of the ideal Nun. The NUN is honored as one of the most ancient breeds of fancy pigeons. They belong to the family of Tumblers. Its origin is linked to Germany and Holland during the Middle Ages. The Nun is mentioned as early as 1603 by Aldrovandi. The Nun’s growing popularity spread to England and France centuries ago. It appeared in the first Treatise ever published about pigeons, written in 1735 by James Moore of London. In 1850 ( according to Brent ), the NUN was the most popular of all toy pigeons in England. NUNS were first recorded in American exhibition shows as early as 1873 / 1874 continuing to the present. I hope you browse through the site and enjoy its content, feel free to contact any of us with your inquiries. Yours in the hobby Tony De Santolo |
